Being at boarding school does not mean girls are out of touch with their families. Parents/guardians and daughters, and sisters and brothers, can all keep in touch.
No girl at Thornton is very far away from her family thanks to Internet communications and mobile phones. At Thornton College all the boarding girls can keep in close contact with their loved ones and friends, while enjoying the company of their friends at school and the care of the house staff.
On the first day of term each year we hold a ‘meet the staff’ afternoon where all parents and guardians meet the boarding team and academic teachers. We then work closely together with parents and guardians to ensure that girls in our care are happy and feel secure.
In addition to the more formal written reports sent home at the end of each term, parents and housemistresses communicate regularly via telephone and email. We also encourage all parents to stay in regular contact with their daughter's housemistress to find out how she is getting on.
Email & Skype
All pupils have access to computers for ‘skyping’, internet usage (filtered/controlled for their protection) and email. This means they can stay in regular contact with family and friends.
Mobile phones are the most popular form of communication and the girls phone home regularly.
