The aim of the department is to encourage pupils to work positively and with enjoyment in order to achieve their creative potential.
Pupils are encouraged to develop a knowledge and understanding of materials and components. This knowledge is combined with designing and making skills to design and make products, primarily working in wood, metal and plastic.
The department is lead by a full time specialist and our facilities include a large design room and a separate workshop. We also have the use of an IT suite where pupils are able to develop their skills in CAD. Pupils in years 5 to 9 study Design Technology for one and a half hours each week, in years 10 and 11 this increases to two and a quarter hours.
Design Technology is a popular subject and pupils are eager to take their completed project work home, which indicates that they are pleased with what they have produced.
