It was great to welcome Biba Hyde-Rowe, Senior Finance Manager for Charlotte Tilbury, to share her career journey and explain more about her job role.
Biba is an old girl and left school to study Events Management at university. After realising this was not the right path for her she got a job in admin and took an accountancy course. Having never really considered a career in Finance, she really enjoyed it and went on to study Accountancy and Finance at university.
As a relatively new business, created ten years ago, Charlotte Tilbury is a fantastic company to work for as they are continuing to grow. Indeed this year they will expand into a further six European countries and only recently launched a new perfume range.
Biba is involved in many different aspects of the business, including marketing, setting prices for new products and making decisions about recruitment of make-up artists on beauty counters. She stressed that it is not necessary to study accountancy at university to fulfil her role, or to be a strong mathematician. It is more important to be inquisitive, have excellent communication skills as well as enjoying numbers.
Although she has a degree, Biba said in her opinion going to university does not give you any advantage, particularly as companies support employees to take the professional accountancy exams which are the benchmark for her role.
