SPOTLIGHT CAREERS: MK CITY COUNCIL

Posted: 9th October 2024

At the beginning of term we were delighted to welcome Sarah Collins, Principal Property Lawyer with Milton Keynes City Council, to deliver our first Spotlight Talk of the academic year. Sarah’s journey into Law was not traditional. A close friend’s experience with homelessness when she was young, inspired Sarah into studying for a university degree in Social Work. After not enjoying the course and realising social work was not for her, she took on a graduate position with a car rental company. She tried several different positions within the company and eventually settled in loss adjustment which involved legal work. She loved it and moved to work for Milton Keynes City Council and studied for her Law exams through CILEX. In her role as a Property Lawyer she now fulfils her childhood dream as she works to support the homeless in Milton Keynes. The top two skills that Sarah thinks are needed for a Lawyer are listening and the ability to think critically. However, she also believes that honesty and integrity are key attributes.
