Nifty Lift – Women in Engineering

Posted: 13th November 2024

Every year Nifty Lift host a fantastic event which our Year 9s attend, and this year was no exception. There were a number of workshops, activities and tours hosted by apprentices, graduates and Year in Industry students from Bath, Warwick, Loughborough and Newcastle Universities.

It was interesting to hear that Nifty Lift have a hydraulics centre at Bath University, and students who choose to do their placement year are studying Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Product Design. Nifty Lift own a house in Milton Keynes where these students live for the year and they were all hugely enthusiastic about the company and their experience.

Our students took part in a Production Line Task, where they had to build a SD210 machine using parts provided, a Hydraulics Activity, where they looked at the inside of machines to identify hydraulics, a challenge to determine the weight of a load cell with the Control Systems  Department, a Shadow Board Activity where they had to compete to identify tools from a  tool box, a competition to guess the price and production of components with the Purchasing Department, a full Factory Tour and a trip up in the cherry pickers to finish with.

Nifty Lift will be joining us for our STEM Event on Tuesday 4 February and we are so grateful for their support and their commitment to hosting such a wonderful event.
