Following their 3-0 victory over Newcastle High School last week, our amazing Esports team, The UFOs, have done it again!
Yesterday evening Thornton’s UFOs defeated Bolton Girls’ School by the same scoreline in the Independent School Association (ISA) Esports Competition.
The girls are really working well as a team and thinking about how best to meet the game objectives. Fran and Eleanor were players of the match this week, chosen by the game to have the best records.
The team play their final group match against Bedford School next Wednesday. Bedford have won all of their games so far so it’s a winner takes all match – with the victorious team playing in the final against the other group winners from around the country, after half term.
Mr Lovell, Head of Computer Science (and Team Manager), commented “Bedford are a strong team, and I know we are going to make it hard for them next week. They won’t have come up against anyone quite like the Thornton UFOs yet!”
The benefits of Esports include developing cognitive skills and creativity, boosting mental health, encouraging teamwork and social skills, and building transferable skills for the future.
