Congratulations to all our Sixth Form students who received their A Level and Vocational Qualification results this morning! It was lovely to see so many of them and we are happy to share that they are off to Manchester, Leeds, Kent, Loughborough and Winchester Universities to name a fewThe courses they are going on to study are brilliantly varied, reflecting their individual interests, and include; Dual Hons Music & Psychology with an Integrated Masters; Bupa Apprenticeship in Dental Science; Forensic Science; Prosthetics and Orthotics; Physiotherapy; Neurosciences.

Jasmine

Jasmine joined Thornton for Sixth Form and excelled in Music, achieving 3rd place in the National Independent Schools Association Music Competition last year.  Jasmine has always loved Music and developed a real interest in Psychology whilst at Thornton. We are delighted that Jasmine secured her first-choice university and wish her well as she embarks on Music & Psychology at the University of Leeds.   The course offers a Music Psychology integrated Masters and this is what drew Jasmine to this particular course.

On collecting her results this morning Jasmine commented: “I’m just really happy that I came here to Thornton and got to meet all my friends.  I am really grateful to have all of my teachers here especially the music department who are amazing.  I have received such wonderful support thank you so much.”

Coco

Coco, who arrived in Year 5 as an international student, achieved her first-choice university this morning and we wish her the very best as she starts her Forensic Science degree at Kent University.

Coco said: “This school has taught me everything; how to speak and write English as I joined from overseas.  This schools is my home and I am now only just realising that I am leaving my home and I really don’t want to leave!

“Thornton knows me inside out and I know it inside out and I will never forget this place.”

Coco’s mum added: “Thornton has very much helped Coco to develop into the person she is now.  The support, love, guidance and tenacity of teaching Thornton provides helps individuals find their best selves.

“We found the right school here for Coco very early on and she wouldn’t have the future that she has now without Thornton.”

Marcella

We are so proud of Marcella who secured a highly competitive apprenticeship in Dental Nursing with Bupa this year. She has been working with Bupa throughout the summer and is thoroughly enjoying it.

Anna

Whilst Anna was celebrating with staff and friends, her mum said:  “Thornton has given Anna so much more than the grades – she has grown in confidence so much and has made some lovely life friends and we are grateful she had the opportunity to come to Thornton for these Sixth Form years.”

Morgan

Morgan has been at Thornton College since she was 3 years old.  We were all rather tearful as she received her results; Morgan is going to her first-choice university to study prosthetics and orthotics at the University of Salford in Manchester.

Her dad commented: “if you have the right environment and support you can achieve.”

Morgan added: “I am just so pleased.  This has been what I wanted to do since Year 9; the choices I made with the support of my teachers to take the right GCSEs to allow me to do the right A Levels and here I am!”

Morgan has achieved support from the NHS and DSA to pursue this course and is most looking forward to the course placement in Uganda where she will get the opportunity to help communities.

Chiamaka

Chiamaka has been at Thornton since Year 10 and was our Deputy Head Girl in Sixth Form.  She received her results this morning and will be going to study Psychology at Nottingham-Trent University.

On receiving her results Chiamaka said: “I joined Thornton in Year 10 and quickly felt like I had been here forever.  The support I was given made me more ambitious to choose courses I would never have considered before.  I am thrilled to be going on to study Psychology and thank you to everyone for your continued support”.

We are delighted for Chiamaka and wish her the very best for the future.

Elizabeth

Our loss is Loughborough’s gain! Elizabeth is going to her first-choice, Loughborough University, to study Criminology following multiple meetings with the cricket coaches there!  She is already well known at the University and is looking forward to playing cricket for Loughborough.

Victoria

Victoria has been a member of our community from 3 years old and was our Head Girl in the Sixth Form.  She received her results today and achieved a place at her first-choice university, Manchester. Victoria has always demonstrated a passion for Neuro-Science, completing an impressive EPQ on Alzheimer’s in Year 12.

Victoria said: “I’m feeling ecstatic – really over the moon.  The staff here have been really helpful and really supportive and I’m excited to be going on to study something I’m interested in.  Thank you to everyone who has helped me”.
