BOARDING ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS ARE OPEN TO YEAR GROUPS 5 – 13
At Thornton we offer the environment for students to Thrive Academically. Our Boarding Academic Scholarship is open to termly boarding girls in Years 5 – 13, subject to availability. Academic scholars are selected as being amongst the brightest academically in their year, destined for exceptional results. The academic assessment will vary depending on your daughter’s year group.
All students awarded a Boarding Academic Scholarship are required commit to study at Thornton for the duration of their current Key Stage. They will join us as a termly boarder and continue to board for the duration of the scholarship funded study.
Your daughters’ application will be reviewed and if successful, she will be invited to attend Thornton for a visit, including a night in boarding. If a visit to the school is not possible, then a further interview will be added.
Candidates will be expected to:
- Complete a baseline assessment
- Visit Thornton, including a night in boarding where possible
- Attend an entrance interview with the Headteacher and Head of Boarding
Essential requirements:
- Completed registration form for your daughter
- Copy of your daughter’s most recent school report that must show consistent excellence in both attitude to learning and outcome
- Headteacher letter of recommendation
- Baseline assessment score of 134+
- For Year 12 entry – GCSE results with a total of 63 across 9 GCSE’s, with grade 8+ in each of the A Levels your daughter is wishing to pursue
Desirable requirements:
- Supporting evidence will be considered regarding other talents, including music and sport.
Offers will be dependent on your daughter achieving the above criteria. The Boarding Academic Scholarships are offered as a discount of 30 – 50% on day tuition and termly boarding accommodation – weekend trips that incur a fee will not be included.
